I have disabled the tab anymation in my install(s). This was just frustration - the tab has already changed, it's displayed on screen, but it's "slowly" fades in so I can see it.
It become too much distracting and my life is better since. Has anyone else been feeling the same? Do we have a lot of complains on this issue? If we do, this might be a good idea disabling this feature by default.

Well, on a KDE vanilla installation, it is disabled by default.
I have tab animation enabled on my desktop, but not my laptop. The desktop has an ATI video card, and the animation is quick and smooth. The laptop has an Intel video chipset, and the animation was infuriatingly slow, so I disabled it. I think it is a good option to have available, but it should not under any circumstances be the default.
Yeah just did this yesterday, so much better without the fading in-out.
I personally prefer no animation, but as always with KDE, customising is so easy that i would leave the "candy" on for default.

For what it's worth, I usually disable almost all animations (tabs, scrolling, virtual desktop, etc...) since they are either noticably slow or distracting.
I probably have a lower-than-average patience with those things, though.
